COSC 3P98 Animation Project:
Exibition Room Animation (AVI, 15.5MB)
by WeiQuiang Li and Luan Hai
Introduction
This product presented a scene of inside room walking. The whole process included animations as follows: camera movement, multi-element movement and text color changes. A Chinese ancient music was attached to the animation. The reason of chosing an inside room scene as animating enviorenment is because of its typical 3D (W x L x H) dimensional effect as well as the true site effect.Tools
The following tools have been hired for animation generation. * 3D studio Max 3.0 For modeling, animating and rendering * CD media editor For music recording, cutting, and combining * Quide time player For animation viewingModels
Modeling is quite time consuming. Refer to the following examples for a brief descrition1.Ceiling
"Colone" methord was used when creating recesses in the roof panel, both for light well and for spot light holes.
2.Curve-shape wall
The curve-shape wall plate was generated simply by drawing closed curve lines and then extruding the outline into geometries.
3.Floor
"Array" command was applied when creating floor panel blocks. This command is faster and more accurate when generating large amount of same shape elements.
4.Sofa
Safa sample was found in model lab and was placed in scene by "import" command as a max file.
5.Text
Text sample can be created by simply chosing "text" tab in the "shape" option, and then "Extrude" command could be used to adjust text thickness.
Animation
Few charisctoristics of this animation:1.Camera
Free-camera was chosen to suit the moving walk effects.2.Text movements and color changes
Several texts were arranged to animate at the same moment, and "Scale" command was also applied to the texts during animation. All these combinations made the animation more active. Text were defined to different color at different frame phase so as to have a text color changing effect as the animation plays.Music
The backgroud music came from one of our favourate music CD, we edit it by using CD Media Editor. The finished segment of music was mixed with animation by activing "sound" option in "Rendering" menu column. Conclusion
In order ot complete this short animation, lots of reference-book readings, modelings and render practicings needed to be done. Prior to the final rendering, the whole process of creation is hard but interesting. We learn a lot from it.
