Model Land by Yurii
Kuzmin Tools used: Adobe Atmosphere 1.0, Adobe Photoshop 6.0, Adobe
Illustrator 8.0.
Attention!!! In order to
view and explore this world you must have Adobe Atmosphere installed on
you computer.You can download the
browser from HERE
After you had installed the Adobe Atmosphere on
your computer click HERE
to download a .zip file. Save this file to your computer, unzip it, in
folder Project you will find the file with name my_world.aer. Double click
on it and enjoy...
The Scene. The idea behind this work was
to create a Model Land for house builders. So people who are looking into
buying a new house could go to a website and look over some houses online.
They would be able to go inside of these houses, check out how the house
looks from outside from different points of view, and just browse around
and see if they like it or not. Later, developers could add specified
furniture to the house or change the texture of the floor so costumers
would be able to build the house for themselves and see it on the screen
in 3D mode. Since Adobe Atmosphere allows you to build a 3D website and 3D
worlds it would be a perfect tool to do so. Adobe Atmosphere is still
under development, but you can download trial version of this software.
Due to the scope of this project and time constraints I decided to limit
myself in the number of houses developed and I decided to keep level of
detailing quite simple.
Movement. Since this is not an animation,
but so called 3D world, user completely controls all the movements in
space. User can move in any directions (up, down, left, right) and user
can look up and look down. All these moves are accessible through keyboard
or mouse. User uses up and down keys to move forward and backward and left
and right keys on keyboard to turn left or right. If user presses Shift
key and while pressing it presses up or down, user will move up and down
in the 3D world. If user will press left or right key with Shift key, user
will walk sideways to the left or to the right. Same way works the Ctrl
key. If user wishes to look up or down, then Ctrl key should be pressed
and then up and down key can be used while Ctrl is pushed down. If user
will use mouse, then forward, backward, left and right movements are
accessible through the mouse while left button is pressed. User can move
sideways if Shift key is pressed and by moving mouse with left button
pushed down to the left or to the right, or user can look up and down, and
in order to do so Ctrl key should be pushed down and mouse has to be moved
up and down while left button is pushed.
Cameras. There is only one camera that is
set up by Adobe Atmosphere by default. It is so called eye camera because
it is set up the way that the person at the computer has the feeling that
he looks at the scenery through the eyes of the person that walks in that
3D world.
Models. All the models used in this world
were designed and created by me using Adobe Atmosphere 1.0. Since the
Adobe Atmosphere is still under development, and full version is still not
available I ran into some troubles creating these models. Especially I had
a lot of problems with staircases, especially with alignment of the
staircases. In addition to the house models, I had to create models for
the washroom, fridge, kitchen unit, sofa, wall unit and bed. Later all
these models were imported into each house model. Since the Adobe
Atmosphere has only simple geometric shapes and lines available for the
modeling, some of the models were really difficult to create.
Textures. Textures bring the Adobe
Atmosphere world to life. Textures transform a wire frame model into a
virtual environment. I used Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and Adobe Illustrator 8.0
to create or modify textures. Some of the textures I found on Internet,
some of them I took from the work that I had done for VISA 2F95 course,
but main part of them I created on my own using different filters and
effects of Adobe Photoshop.
Floor Textures
Wall Textures
Roof Textures
Other Textures
Lighting. Lighting is another effect that
makes your world look more realistic. In Adobe Atmosphere it is achieved
by creating luminous surfaces - surfaces that cast light onto non-luminous
surfaces around them. It is very simple to do in Adobe Atmosphere and it
works quite well.
Overall Experience. As I said before,
Adobe Atmosphere is still under development. You can just download trial
version from their website. So it is really hard to judge the software
that still under development. It was impossible for me to get the Browser
to work the right way, so you would be able to view my project right from
Internet Explorer. It would open up my world without any texture,
althrough every link to texture was right, and textures were placed in the
right spot (I spent a long time trying to make it work). So I had to make
you to download the .zip file to your computer in order to view my word.
But overall impression is good. At first you have to get to know it, and
some things look little bit strange at first, but later you can do very
amazing things with it. On Internet you can find some worlds that other
people created and it looks quite real. Adobe Atmosphere has its limits
too. For example if you need to develop a model with some strange
geometric shape, it would be really hard to do in Atmosphere. On another
side, there is a huge market for software like this. With rapid growth of
Internet, software like Adobe Atmosphere will allow people to reach
completely different goals.
