The character Hydrogen Bond came from OAC Biology. You see, Mr.
Johnson could not captivate a class. He had a monotone voice, he thought he
had a sense of humor, but what he really had was a bored body of students.
And there I sat, second row from the back, between what was at the time my two best friends. One is still my best friend, the other is now my girlfriend. Trapped there, for 45 minutes every day, in a subject I found extreamly interesting, taught by a man who could put an insomniac to sleep, I was somewhere in between. I began to doodle, and that’s when Bond, Hydrogen Bond was born. With a chuckle from my friends he was granted the seal of approval, and he appeared sporadically ever since. Now, I am not by any stretch of the imagination an artist, and Hydrogen Bond was pretty simple. Below is what he originally appeard as. With his hair combed back, and armed with a simple hand gun, he would set out to save the world. But what is a real hydrogen bond? A hydrogen bond is what occurs when a hydrogen atom in one molecule forms an ionic bond (opposed to a covalent one) with an oxygen or nitrogen atom of a different molecule. In other words, a hydrogen bond joins two molecules together, even if there are no free electrons to form a normal bond. A hydrogen bond is what makes water water. Everyone knows a water molecule is made of two hydrogen atoms and an oxygen atom (H2O), but it all sticks together and becomes a cohesive substance because of hydrogen bonds. Back |
