Dark Symphony
I never thought I would enjoy programming sound, but I have learned to love Csound. I have always been inspired by Beethoven. I used to listen to Beethoven to calm me down before an exam. Since I have relied on Beethoven to help me focus, calm my demeanour I found it fitting to compose a Csound song based on his work. The structure of my Fur Elise composition is divided into measures, about 18 different in all. I used chapter 1 in Csound to give me the frequencies of all the middle notes on a keyboard (A-G). With this frequency information I would continually double, or half frequencies as necessary to attain the correct octave of a particular note on the keyboard. With all the notes defined to ± 3 Octaves I began to transpose each note, one note at a time. After the transposition of Fur Elise was complete, I added some background screams and an eerie granular instrument making the composition darker. At the end of the composition I added a delayed scream to really wake up people who are sleeping through my composition. This instrument I invented was a simple pluck instrument intended to simulate a dark old piano (please refer to data flow diagram). I also invented a granular instrument that creates and eerie silent night time mood (please refer to data flow diagram). This sound clips were originally .wav files, and I converted them to .aif files using Adobe Audition. I found this sound clips used for the LOSCIL on http://www.flashkit.com .

Hope you enjoy it.
