Alien Encounter is a musical composition an experimental music composition I came up with experimenting with different musical instruments created in csound. I choose the name Alien Encounter since the musical piece contains some sort of "star trekish" sound to some components of the song.
Alien Encounteris composed of several musical instruments I have created using csound. In total there are ten musical instruments that were created for this piece, but I only used 6. A few of the more unique complex instruments I created are illustrated below:
Instument #106:Instrument #106 uses two loscil opcodes that recieves three input values, including an instrument number which for the composition of Alien Encounter is a wavefile loaded into the f table. In combination to the loscil opcodes consists of another two buzz opcodes which are all mixed together to produce interesting audio sounds.
Instrument #110:Instrument #110 combines two buzz opcodes that receive three input values. The output of each buzz opcode is combined separately by two oscillators, and a function value. The results as heard in the Alien Encounter are very interesting.
The composition of the entire musical piece was created using csound source code to create all instruments and musical tones. The Blue Composition Environment was used to assist in organizing pieces of csound audio into the audio composition. In the end, a total of six audio tracks in Blue were used, and play continously.
Blue then was used to create the final WAVE file, and then Adobe Audition was used to save the wave into MP3 VBR format.
In composing Alien Encounter a few sources were used. Examples from the COSC 4P98 Webpage such as Earl Foxwell's Huh? and Greg Robert's An Insult to Rock were of inspiration. The csound book was also the basis of some instruments that were created, but have been modified extensively for Alien Encounter.
