Inspiration
This composition is an attempted simple reconstruction of the theme of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. It is a simple melody, with complexity increasing as it repeats again and again. I attempted to recreate this growing complexity, with the backing strings coming in later, and the brass in the second repeat, along with the cymbals at the climax.
Instruments
All of the instruments were custom created from scratch experimentally by me. The main harp heard throughout the song is a simple pluck with some added reverb. The bass drum also heard throughout is also a pluck, in the streched drum mode. The backing strings are a mix of a pluck with an oscillating size wave, mixed in the end with an ASDR envelope. The brass is a copy of the harp, but with a sawtooth wave instead of a sine. The cymbal sound is the most complex. It uses a sampled wave file, Yama.wav, as both an oscillator input, and a granular synthesis input. These two are added, multiplied by an ASDR envelope, and then panned across the stereo channels with a LFO. The data flow of the cymbal is below
Tools Used:
All composing was done in CSound. Audacity was used to extract the Yama sample from the full track, as well as export the final result as .mp3
