Both the audio and the video
portions of the animation were done by both Leigh and Melissa. We first
edited the music down to the desired length using Sound Recorder.
Then we cut up this edited version into several parts and divided the
parts between the two of us. Then we both animated the figures in Poser
to a part of the music. We chose to import the music into Poser instead of merging one long clip over a
completed video. This is because we needed the actors to move to the beat of the music, and the easiest way to do this was
to have control over the audio in Poser. Unfortunately, after completing two full animated scenes, we realized that
the frame rate in Poser would lag behind the music when textures were left on during play. To solve this
we ran our animations in wireframe mode during testing.
We added backgrounds (after editing them with
Fireworks) and changed clothing and scenes between music parts. Once
all of the sections were done, we used Windows Movie Maker to join them
to make one animation file, and add the titles and credits.
In our opinion, however, the biggest
hurdle of all was file compression. As we were unable to install software in the labs,
we tried running the compression on a laptop, but came to an impass when we realized that
we had no useful codecs. After spending a LONG time trying to find a way to compress the
gigantic file while keeping our animation easily available, we ended up ftp-ing an
uncompressed 310 MB file to Adam Coulter, who compressed it for us using TMPEG.
